Micro chipping

Dorsetdog - Micro chipping

Micro chipping is one of the most important thing to do when you first get your dog.

A microchip is a small electronic chip with a unique identification number, which is inserted into the dog. This tiny chip does not cause any discomfort to the animal.

Bayer have a website dedicated to their chip. The Bayer page advises

Every year more than 300,000 treasured pets go missing. Petlog, the Tracer Advance database, handles more and more calls every day reporting lost and found pets.

Pets can go missing for a variety of reasons: they can become scared during the firework season or heavy thunderstorms, wander too far from a new house and being, naturally inquisitive, can easily become lost whilst investigating smells or noises.

Having a microchip implanted is quick, simple and very cost effective. It will give you the peace of mind that, if your pet does become lost, you will have more chance of being reunited faster. You may also avoid the possibility of your pet being rehomed or kept in a shelter.

Some people believe that they don't need to chip their dog as it is never left alone.

The reality is that it only takes a person to leave a gate open, or for the dog to slip out unseen when someone leaves the house, and your beloved pet has gone forever.

The benefit of a chipped dog is that should a dog be lost or stolen, if the dog is found again then any vet will be able to scan the chip and contact the registered owner.

Animals have been returned to their owners up to 10 years after the animal first went missing.

The chip is inserted quickly and easily at your vets or any breed club's health day. Each chip comes in its own implanter tool.

Both of my cavaliers are chipped, and I would urge you to do the same.
